What does it mean to be an aspiring product owner?

You will learn to become a product owner on the job. You will work closely with a product owner and their team in our grid for a period of a couple of months. In that period, you will help the product owner and their team out with for example setting priorities, backlog grooming and stakeholder management. After a couple of months, you'll move on to another team. This way, you'll get familiar with a couple of different teams and themes within our grid - making sure you learn the full set of product owner skills you'll need. We will extensively coach you and reflect on your performance.

After working with a couple of teams, you should be ready for the next step. We'll look carefully together with you which product owner position can be a good match for you, and you will be promoted to the function of product owner. We expect you to be an aspiring product owner for about a year. This job can be the perfect starting point if you want to start working for the digital channels of ABN AMRO.

Your job

You will work very closely together with a product owner and their team. You will pick up some of the typical activities of the product owner like:

  • Vision and strategy of the product - work on defining and clarifying the vision and strategy of your product, and clearly communicate this to both the team and stakeholders
  • Work with the development team - clarifying things for the development team and make sure they are working on the right thing
  • Defining priorities - deciding what is the most important thing to do next based on data insights and stakeholder information
  • Working with stakeholders - discussing the product of the team with people all throughout the organization to improve it

What you'll pick up exactly will depend on the needs of the PO/team you are working with and the point you are at with your personal development. We will give you freedom to be in charge of your own development in becoming a product owner. With a personal development budget an a big training offering, we'll give you all the tools you need to become a product owner in our grid. You can also expect hands-on coaching by experience product owners and getting more responsibility along the way.

Working environment

Grid Digital Channel Capabilities consists of about 200 people across 25 development teams. We build reusable components, capabilities and services that are used in all digital channels of ABN AMRO, like abnamro.nl, the app and Internet Banking. 
Our colleagues are located in various locations such as the Netherlands, India and Poland. We are located at the Gustav Mahlerlaan in The Netherlands, but work in a hybrid way. This means that you have the flexibility to work from home multiple days in the week.
