The role of the Director is to proactively develop and manage a portfolio of UK and Irish Corporate clients in line with CIB strategic ambitions, within the Consumer / Food & Beverages Theme. 

At a glance

The mission of the Corporate and Institutional Clients (CIC) Coverage team is to provide UK/ Ireland based Corporate and Financial Institution clients with a full service offering to meet their funding, risk management and transaction banking requirements. 

The CIC Coverage function is the primary client interface and client relationship management role for serving Corporate and Financial Institution clients. The clients are organised by sectors and themes (e.g. RE, Digital & Consumer, New Energies and Mobility & Logistics) and banker coverage mirrors ABN AMRO’s defined strategy. This includes ABN AMRO’s focus / strategy on sustainability.

Coverage bankers liaise between their clients and product partners, sector heads and functions in the UK & Netherlands to deliver solutions to UK/Ireland clients. The role of the Director is to manage and develop a portfolio of new and existing clients, maximising returns whilst adhering to the Bank’s moderate risk profile. The main products offered are Loans, DCM, Global Markets products (FX and IR), M&A, ECM, Transaction Banking, Trade Finance and Commercial Finance & Leasing. Clearing may also be in scope as appropriate. 

The UK /Ireland Corporate Coverage business has the objective of developing client relationships with a turnover of at least GBP 100 million. The objective of the team is to achieve superior growth and returns via onboarding and developing relationships with both existing and new clients. This will be achieved through managing a moderate risk appetite in line with Bank policies. The emphasis is on building long term relationships based on trust and offering services and solutions which match the clients needs. The coverage bankers understand their clients’ strategies, issues and commercial challenges and are committed to exceed the clients expectations in order to achieve trusted advisor status. 

Your job

The Coverage Banker / Director has the following responsibilities:

The role of the Director is to proactively develop and manage a portfolio of UK and Irish Corporate clients in line with CIB strategic ambitions, within the Consumer / Food & Beverages Theme. This will be achieved through a combination of internal work with product, risk and solutions partners and direct interaction with clients, prospects and market introducers. 

In addition, they will be expected to take a leading role in the training and development of the team juniors.

Key components of role will include:

  • Act as the primary contact for all client interaction within their portfolio. This includes leading the relationship with senior client participants (CFO/CEO) and continuously develop the client relationship to ensure ABN AMRO is viewed as a trusted advisor.
  • Steer the commercial activities relating to their portfolio, taking account the interests of the client. 

  • Act as first line of defence for the Bank with a focus on risk management and mitigation. 
  • Generate leads and business opportunities with both new prospective clients and existing portfolio. This includes efforts to achieve the Bank’s sustainability agenda. 
  • Generate leads for other business lines and other teams within the wider Bank. 
  • Organise and manage the Client Service Teams (CSTs), ensuring efficient and effective coverage to manage P&L and Balance Sheet targets,  maximising risk-adjusted returns. Take responsibility for a streamlined execution and ensuring superior delivery of relevant products and solutions to meet client requirements. 
  • Responsible for making and executing account plans for clients in cooperation with the relevant product departments, taking into account the Bank’s risk appetite framework. 
  • Work with colleagues across ABN geographical footprint to ensure consistent application of the Bank’s chosen themes. 
  • Responsibility for executing CIBs chosen strategy in the UK & Ireland, for clients within their relevant sectors. 
  • Demonstrate a full understanding of internal and external developments relevant to the Corporate & Institutional Clients organisation, clients and products and act accordingly to achieve objectives. 
  • Expected to be / become a knowledge expert in relation to their client portfolio’s core sector(s) and proactively share relevant information with all appropriate stakeholders. 
  • Support the Head of Digital & Consumer Coverage UK & Ireland in the development and implementation of the business plan and budget. 
  • Actively engage to ensure close collaboration with other departments and product areas. 
  • Proactively contribute towards priorities of the UK Coverage team and the wider Bank. Show a willingness to challenge the status quo in a professional manner as and when appropriate. 
  • Ensure correct application of the relevant risk, compliance and sustainability policies of the bank.

ABN AMRO UK is part of the Corporate Banking business line and operates the following businesses in the UK:

  • Corporate and Institutional Banking which includes Corporate Banking, Clearing, Global Markets - Sales & Trading and Financial Institutions 
  • Commercial Banking which includes Asset Based Finance and International Desk, which provides transactional banking services

Our business lines are supported by a number of functions such as Risk, Compliance, Legal, IT, Finance (Including Tax), Business Management and Human Resources. We currently employ approx. 380 people in the UK.

Your profile

  • Graduate or equivalent 
  • Relevant experience working inside a UK client coverage team, within an established financial institution or professional services firm. 
  • Significant experience working with companies within Consumer / Food & Beverages and associated sectors.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of different financing styles (project finance, acquisition finance, bilateral, club and syndicated corporate debt facilities) essential.  
  • Proven ability to deliver cross sell including Markets, DCM, Cash Management, Advisory, Trade & Guarantees. 
  • Act as trusted advisor to client base and peers. 
  • Strong and proven network within relevant sectors and within the professional services community. 
  • Determined and proactive self-starter, working in a structured and organised manner.
  • Acute attention to detail and consistently strive for the highest quality output in all work. 
  • Excellent credit skills and demonstrable understanding of economic and risk factors relevant to chosen sector(s).  
  • Broad and relevant industry knowledge relevant to applicable themes / Bank strategy. 
  • Knowledge of current social and economic developments, industry and sector dynamics, competition and relevant events in the international markets.
  • Understanding of ABN AMRO's vision and strategy as well as the operating concepts, business processes, organization, products and services of large multinational financial institutions.
