ABN AMRO has three sustainability themes; Climate, Circular Economy and Social Impact (which includes Human Rights). Our team focuses on the policies and actions of the bank aimed at the prevention of harming people and the creation of positive impact on people. We have endorsed the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and will implement new, binding legislation, such as the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (‘CS3D’), as well as the human rights and social aspects of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This means we contribute to respecting and protecting human rights in our value chain and providing access to remedy breaches of human rights in our value chain by means of a.o. due diligence efforts and engagement with clients.
Your job
Within the Social Impact & Human Rights team, you will contribute to:
- Give guidance to ABN AMRO’s commitment to respect human rights in all our business activities (clients, suppliers, other relations)
- Engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, to increase their knowledge and improve their awareness about business and human rights.
- Support colleagues and clients in the field of respecting and protecting Human Rights;
- Design and implement the human rights engagement approach of the corporate bank and wealth management
- Lead specific client or sector engagements on human rights
- Revise and improve human rights position statements of ABN AMRO such as the modern slavery statement
- Lead on stakeholder engagement activities
- Drafting advice for a wide variety of internal stakeholders through applying human rights concepts and requirements like saliency assessments or Access to Remedy to business practices;
- Maintaining a network of relevant internal and external stakeholders who provide input on the bank’s social impact and human rights policies and procedures.
- Provide input on the bank’s policies, tools and instruments and reporting, that address human rights risks and mitigation actions.
Working environment
The SCE is a department with approximately 50 FTEs and operates on a global level. The SCE is managed by the CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer) and is divided into sub-departments with a specialist focus (Climate, Social, Circular & Biodiversity) and a broad focus (Reporting, Regulations & Stakeholder Management, ESG Data and Business Insights). You will work in the Social Impact and Human Rights team, consisting of 7 FTEs, and will report to the MT member who is also responsible for the Inclusive Banking team.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with knowledge and experience in the field of Human Rights, and familiar with client due diligence from a human rights point of view. You understand the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and their effect on and role in the bank, as well as the OECD due diligence Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises .
- Education: HBO or University Degree, preferably in International Law or other Human Rights related areas
- You will be contributing to the design of sustainability due diligence within the bank: it is preferable to have experience with conducting and/or designing due diligence within a bank or similar organisation
- Experience with external stakeholder management
- Experience: a minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in Human Rights, Sustainability, internal and external stakeholder management, Legal
- Competences: analytical, result oriented, structured, innovative, excellent communication skills, fluent in both English and (preferably) Dutch
- Personal: purpose driven, passion to make impact for sustainability and human rights, leadership skills, team player.
